Drawing Practice

My aim over these last few days has been to try and improve my drawing skill, and so armed with some new magazines, Painter and my Wacom tablet I've been getting some stuff down on paper... so to speak.

This is a quick sketch of a character I'm working on for my Art and graphics project. She's been through several variation so far but I think I'm getting close to a final version.

  1. Your artwork is looking fantastic, I must say. Can I ask, which Wacom tablet are you using? I'm considering purchasing one in the near future and wonder how you're finding it.

  2. Hey Vee, and thanks :)
I use a beast of a tablet. It's a Wacom Intuos 3. It's an A3 one which is huge and it can be a little tricky trying to find a desk big enough to accommodate for it. The tablet itself is absolutely fantastic I really can't survive without it! I had a smaller Wacom Graphire to start with, which was very nice but no where near the versatility of the Intuos 3. Both Wacoms have no been discontinued: Graphires are no compatible with Mac OSX or Vista, and the Intuos 3 is hit and miss with Vista, it has issues with touch sensitivity.
If you where considering buying one then it would depend on what you would be wanting it for. If it's art, then invest in an Intuos (They're up to Intuos 4 at the moment). They are by far the best investment for drawing tablets and they can take one hell of a beating so you can literally throw it in a bag and take it anywhere.
If you wanting a more all round tablet, eg some drawing, photomanip, just generally as a mouse go for a Bamboo. They're smaller and easier to set up and great for getting to grips with using a tablet. You can usually pic up a decent Wacom Bamboo for about £50-£80 depending on the size. For an Intuos, you'd be looking at about £200 up to £700 again, depending on the size.
    Hope this helps you :)

  3. Cheers, very helpful ta! It's not for me - I'm not artist - but for a family member who is :)
Based on your advice and some of the reviews I've read, I'm thinking the Intuos 4 might be the one.

Again, nice work on the site and thanks for the advice!
